Domestic Ban

Concept Awareness Campaign

This project required the development of an evidence-based communication design strategy focused on a current social issue. I chose to examine the issue of elephant and rhino poaching, specifically addressing the need to condemn the domestic trade of ivory and rhino horn within Australia. The campaign aimed to raise public awareness and provide a platform for animal activists and anti-poaching supporters to collectively call on the Australian Government to ban domestic trade.

The campaign was designed across a range of media touchpoints and is supported by a professional case study document that presents the completed proposal.

Promotional billboard featuring minimalist illustrations of ivory elephant, tusk, and rhino horn auction items on gavel blocks, set on a dull blue background, with the campaign name and tagline above and hashtag and sponsor in a black footer below.

All promotional material uses a minimalist illustration style and muted colour palette to establish a serious and sombre tone appropriate to the campaign theme.

Three awareness posters on dull blue backgrounds, each featuring one of three auction-themed metaphor variations, a different headline, the campaign name and tagline below, and the hashtag and sponsor in a black footer.

Awareness posters use an auction-themed visual metaphor, featuring an ivory elephant figurine, tusk, or rhino horn about to be smashed by a gavel to represent the destructive impact of domestic trade.

Three participation posters on dull blue backgrounds, each showing a hand holding an auction paddle with a campaign statistic, a smaller auction-themed metaphor in the distance, and the campaign name, tagline, and footer below.

Participation posters encourage public engagement by inviting supporters to create custom auction paddles repurposed as protest paddles.

Storyboard layout for the Domestic Ban animated motion piece, consisting of 16 panels showing the progression of the auction-themed visual metaphor and campaign messaging.

The Domestic Ban motion piece combines the key campaign messaging from the awareness posters within a short animated narrative.

The motion piece is supported by an atmospheric and solemn soundtrack, reinforcing the cruelty of the campaign issue.

Layout presenting four mobile application mockups showing different stages of creating custom protest paddles: starting the process, entering and submitting a message, printing and cutting out the paddle, and sharing it on social media.

The Domestic Ban mobile application allows supporters to create their own custom protest paddles using a provided printable template.

A strong social media presence enables the millennial target demographic to engage with the campaign and participate in campaign-led activism.
