Wolverhampton Wanderers

Concept Football Kits

Wolverhampton Wanderers, commonly known as Wolves, are a historic English football club founded in 1877 and based in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. The club has won multiple league titles and FA Cups and is recognised as one of the founding members of the Football League. With an identity strongly associated with its iconic old gold and black colours, Wolves were also pioneers in early European competition, being among the first English clubs to compete against continental opposition during the 1950s.

This concept football kit project explores how Wolves’ identity can be reinterpreted through contemporary kit design. Drawing on the club’s distinctive hexagonal badge, traditional colour palette, and West Midlands roots, the designs use modern graphic patterns and subtle symbolic detailing to balance heritage with a clean, contemporary aesthetic.

Home Shirt Details

The Wolves home shirt concept features a traditional bright old gold base, complemented by a black buttoned collar, sleeves, and logo detailing. A tessellated hexagonal pattern inspired by the club’s badge runs across the shirt, with outlines that gradually thicken from top to bottom. The pattern alternates between light and dark tones in a subtle vertical rhythm, while the black sleeves incorporate a simplified hexagon motif for added cohesion.

The back continues the hexagonal motifs, with the player name and number printed boldly in black for strong contrast and clarity. Below the collar, the club’s initials, WWFC, are embroidered within a hexagon as a refined finishing detail.

Away Shirt Details

The Wolves away shirt concept follows the same design framework as the home shirt, reworked with a new colour palette. A light blue base is paired with a bright old gold V-neck collar, sleeves, and select logo detailing, while black accents add definition. A more expressive tessellated hexagonal pattern inspired by the club’s badge runs across the shirt, with outlines that gradually thicken from top to bottom. The pattern shifts between light and dark tones in a horizontal zigzag rhythm, while the bright old gold sleeves incorporate a simplified hexagon motif.

The back continues the hexagonal motifs, with a clear break to ensure the player name and number remain bold and legible in black. Below the collar, the club’s initials, WWFC, are embroidered within a hexagon as a consistent and refined finishing detail.

Third Shirt Details

The Wolves third shirt concept introduces a bold black and white geometric base inspired by the half-timbered ornamentation of Wightwick Manor, a notable architectural landmark in Wolverhampton. The monochromatic palette extends across all logos and detailing, allowing the pattern to define the overall character of the shirt.

The back continues the geometric pattern, with a clear break to ensure the player name and number remain legible in black against a plain white panel. Black and white striped sleeve cuffs and hem add a refined finishing touch, while the club’s initials, WWFC, are embroidered just below the back neckline to complete the design.

Club Badge Redesign

As part of this project, the Wolves club badge has been reimagined through an refined geometric approach. The redesign retains the iconic hexagonal form of the club’s current badge while removing all white elements, limiting the palette to the club’s traditional old gold and black. A refined geometric wolf head sits at the centre, with two stylised ‘W’ forms used to construct the eyes, referencing the initials of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The year of the club’s foundation is subtly positioned between the wolf’s ears at the top of the badge, providing a considered historical reference while maintaining clarity and balance within the overall design.
